What is Ruakh Drakhim©?

Ruakh Drakhim (in Hebrew, “Ways of the Spirit”) is an eclectic martial art based on Biblical Principles.

It is an eclectic martial art because first of all, no matter which style one practices, there are only so many ways that a person’s body can move efficiently. Therefore the techniques within the curriculum of Ruakh Drakhim have been carefully selected from many different arts which have outstanding techniques in one area but may not be as efficient in other areas.

Most people would not argue that an average Tae Kwon Do stylist will have great kicking skills, but be more limited when it comes to skill with hand techniques than a student of Western Boxing or Wing Chun. Thus, in Ruakh Drakhim, we have taken the most effective and useful techniques from a wide variety of arts and combined them into one comprehensive system in order to give the student a greater wealth of knowledge and skill.

Some of the Arts which have influenced the development of Ruakh Drakhim are:

  • Kicking Range: Tae Kwon Do (traditional and modern), Farang Musul, Savate, Muay Thai
  • Punching/Striking Range: Western Boxing, Kenpo (Ed Parker and Tracy’s), Ninjutsu, Shaolin Kung Fu, Japanese and Okinawan Karate
  • Trapping/Infighting: Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, Kali, Farang Musul
  • Joint Locking: Farang Musul, Shorinji Kempo, Aikido, Ninjutsu
  • Throwing/Takedowns: Farang Musul, Judo, Wrestling (American Freestyle, Greco Roman, Catch Wrestling), Penchak Silat, Ninjutsu, Traditional Jujutsu
  • Grappling: Wrestling (American Freestyle, Greco Roman, Catch Wrestling), Brazilian Jujutsu, Farang Musul, Russian Sambo
  • Weapons: Kali, Farang Musul, Ninjutsu, Shaolin Kung Fu, Koryo Musul , Mexican Knife Fighting, Western Fencing
  • Pressure Points: Farang Musul, Shorinji Kempo, Ninjutsu, Hapkido
  • Breathing Exercises and Chi Development: Tae Kwon Do, Koryo Musul, Farang Musul, Modern Freestyle Kung Fu, Five Elders Kung Fu
  • Meditation/Spiritual Development: The Holy Bible, Prayer Traditions of the Eastern and Western Church Fathers.

Obviously, we don’t claim to be masters of all of these many systems or claim to teach them all in their entirety. However, since there has been valuable knowledge and skill which has come to us from these arts, it is only right to mention them.

Ruakh Drakhim is in itself a unique and constantly growing martial art. Our purpose is to provide diverse and comprehensive training for the enrichment and benefit of our students, utilizing all the knowledge and skills that the Good Lord has provided through the many very gifted instructors He has led across our path.
